ClearPath Diagnostics, the premier diagnostic pathology practice in upstate New York, has been providing cytopathology services for over 30 years. Our mission is to provide outstanding service with rapid turnaround and clear, concise results.

The experienced diagnostic staff of pathologists and cytotechnologists approaches each case confidently. On-going intramural and extramural continuing education, close collaboration between pathologists and cytotechnologists during diagnostic case review, and a thorough quality assurance program including biopsy to cytology correlation, help to reinforce our high standards.

Our laboratory has been proactive in evaluating technological advancements for the betterment of patient care. We were the first in the region to offer the revolutionary ThinPrep® Pap Test which has dramatically improved the accuracy of cervical cancer screening. This test remains the gold standard for Pap sample preparation and interpretation. In 2004, we were the first laboratory in upstate New York to incorporate the ThinPrep Imaging System, which uses state-of-the-art computerized image analysis to pre-screen all ThinPrep Pap slides before the case is screened by a cytotechnologist. This step in the screening process assists in the detection of abnormal cells.

Our ThinPrep Pap Test is an integral part of our Gynecologic Pathology service. In addition, we led the way in offering the Hologic Gen-Probe® APTIMA® HPV assay for Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing which targets E6/E7 mRNA to test for 14 high risk HPV types. Furthermore, the APTIMA HPV 16 18/45 genotype assay individually identifies and differentiates high risk types 16 and 18/45 which show higher carcinogenic potential relative to all other high risk HPV types. This test can be performed from the ThinPrep specimen vial, and is FDA approved.

We also offer Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis testing using the highly sensitive Hologic Gen-Probe® APTIMA Combo 2® Assay and Trichomonas vaginalis testing using the Hologic Gen-Probe APTIMA Trichomonas vaginalis Assay. These tests can be done using the ThinPrep liquid Pap specimen that is also sent for Pap and HPV analysis. This method allows us to provide up to 5 results (Pap, HPV, GC/Chlamydia and Trichomonas) from a single specimen, minimizing specimen handling for collection and transportation. To do these tests in conjunction with a ThinPrep Pap, they must be ordered along with the Pap. GC/Chlamydia and Trichomonas testing cannot be performed after the aliquot for the Pap Test has been taken from the vial. Specimen collection and transport information for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis and Trichomonas vaginalis testing can be found here. We provide the collection and transport material.

See our Services-Other Tests tab for more detailed information.

In addition to excellence in ThinPrep Pap Test evaluation, our extensive experience with many other cytologic specimens adds another vital dimension to our service. We analyze cells from many different organs including breast and thyroid fine needle aspirations and urine specimens. Attention to every technical detail in the preparation of slides supplements diagnostic expertise. Our ThinPrep Pap test is an integral part of our Gynecologic Pathology service.

The combination of an experienced practice with advanced technologies and a commitment to excellent service has set ClearPath Diagnostics apart from all other laboratories. We look forward to continuing to serve health care providers, their patients and our community for many years to come.
